a    real    hassle.    —–   it   was   always    ‘   you’re   doing    this    for    your    career   ‘    or    ‘    it’s    for   the  citizens   of    sternbild   ‘.    however,   she   still   felt    tired   at   the   end   of   the   day,   her   homework   piled   high,   thirty   -   six   unread   texts.

it’s   for   the   good   of   the   city.   ‘    she   feeds   him   the   lies   spoon   -   fed   to   her   from   corporate   higher   -   ups   dangling   her   dream   just   before   her   grasp.    &.   she   is   the   eager   rodent,   blindly   following   wherever   they   will   her   to.

it   was   a   hassle.   it   was   hard.   it   was   exhausting.   it   hurt   to   see   her   grades   low,   her   friends   distant.   karina   sets  down   her   bag   on   the   bench   where   the   other   sat.

‘   you’re   as   nosy   as   ever.   ‘   cold   words,   a   colder   touch.    but,   there’s   a   smile   on   her   lips.

a hero :     known by many and dealing with the weight of many.   his shoulders already grow weary at the thought.   the look through his eyes shifts between thoughtful and nonchalant if he ever let anyone see that deep enough into them.   a glimmer of amusement raises one corner of his lips.      nosy.       it’s for the good of me,       takes the clay of her words and molds it in his way to return to her.

not like you heroes. ‘fraid my virtues are more along the lines of selfish,      but the way he says it is smug,   the way he says it is as if there could be worser things.   and maybe there could be    -    but he does not know her story or feelings of saving the day. acting as the picture of admiration for many citizens here.

he thinks to the corporate clutches that seem to choke down freedom and lenience to do anything.  red tape everywhere that practically forces them to follow a set standard as heroes.  he slinks onto the backrest of the bench,   composed.   time is his friend right now and here.   he doesn’t know of his company.      that must be a real hassle.

‘   chase   ?   ‘    her   eyebrows   furrow   together,   a   dangerous   look   in   her   eye.    she   didn’t   like   it   when   strangers   pretended   to   be   so   close   to   her    —–   she   wasn’t   here   for   mindless   banter.   she   had   an   ambition   ;   an   attitude   ;   a   destiny   to   succeed.   and   she’d   remove   anything   (   or   anyone   )   in   her   path.

‘    what   do   you   want  ?   ‘   straight   to   the   point.   her   words   cut   through   the   air   like   glass,   glaciers   shatter   and    crumble   —-   she   would   not   be   a    piece   in   his   game.    she’s   the   one   calling   the   shots.

the tide knows when to recede from engulfing shores of discomfort  -   SHE ISN’T WHO HE’S AFTER,  ANYWAY.   when  the ice queen herself  snipped the cord of cordiality,   of further played - out ignorance,    he counts it as a blessing.    any lightness on his face reduces to nothing  ;   nothing clear anyway.

just wondering if heroes actually have a quota,   or if it’s just whenever there’s a bad guy popping up.  if not,         the gun tucked at its holder beneath his arm shifts as he does,  arms loosely folded.        there a way you can send some over to me ?  ( this time his smirk returns. )    doesn’t make the hunting as fun,  but there’re some sacrifices you just gotta make.      he was tight on cash.

‘   fate   ?   ‘ the   word   danced   at   the   tip   of   her   tongue,   slipping   out   of   her   lips,   victim   to   the   air.   fingers   played   with   the   tips   of   her   hair,   eyes   half   -   lidded   in   what   seemed   to   be   laziness.

fated   to   be   a   hero    forever   ?    to   never   reach   her   dream   ?    maybe.

‘    like   fate   could   catch   me.    ‘    she   laughs,   the   angels   choke.    ‘    now   that’s   funny.   ‘

nonchalance is a mutual friend in both ;  his eyes don’t glisten like the ice that stems from her fingertips,  he does not regard the NEXT heroes in a holy light as the citizens here do :     their halos are removable,  their skin is touchable.   they only have extra perks to themselves is all.

“  maybe,  but we can never really tell ‘til it happens,  won’t we ?     ominousness sprouts from his planted words,  as dirtied hands of a messier life slip in his pocket.   cigarette smoke only continues to rise.       not knowing makes the chase a lot more fun.

YOU'RE GONNA CARRY THAT WEIGHT.
